Telephone wires are like dandelions and swallows. They became ubiquitous in art, ads, illustrations, tattoos, etc. a few years ago. They seem symbolic. Of what, I don't know. They are both common and fascinating. Maybe they're the discovery of the sublime in the commonplace.
